They kept us busy at the TEN campus and we enjoyed it all. Our first home was the Green Rooms.

photo being restoredWe spent lots of time visiting with friends, new and old on the lawn. You can watch the hippos from there and in the evening you are right among the nyala who seem to prefer that space to the wild spaces nearby.

We didn’t really need alarm clocks because the birds and the hippos were so excited to see the sunrise every morning that they made sure we were awake to see it, too.

photo being restoredWe took a few hikes around the property and enjoyed the plants that were unfamiliar to us as well as some which which we have in AZ. You know that I can’t resist the lichen and there were some beautiful examples there.

photo being restoredThis thorn bush was barely showing its new green growth when ewe arrived but by the time we left it was fully greened. We had experienced Spring on the bushveld.

photo being restoredThis one made us feel at home! The cactus are few and far between but some are very similar to ours in AZ.

photo being restoredThe wilder animals are encountered on the game drives around the property. We were privileged to go on many and we got up close and personal with beautiful animals. The giraffes are always curious and pose so nicely for us. The warthogs, not so much. They always turn and run so I don’t have a single picture of those ugly/cute guys with their tails straight up and their family following.

photo being restoredThe Hippo Lakes property has lots of variety — lakes, cliffs, grass and bushveld.

photo being restoredThe beautiful sable antelope are one of my favorites. Since it is still early Spring the animals still need a supplement of nutritious grass to keep them healthy and to breed successfully.

photo being restoredOne of our walks took us to this abandoned house. The story goes that it was being built with purloined materials. It had amazingly nice architecture for what it was.

photo being restoredBarb and Dan enjoyed lots of good walks with Luke and me. Dale opted to stay home and visit and Gary dutifully worked every minute he could.
