If you remember that I am not a shopper (my total of purchases on the entire trip so far is 2 postcards purchased in the Falklands) you might wonder why I’m posting about a market. And it won’t be the last time on this blog, I hope. I love outdoor markets especially and yesterday’s was a real treat. We docked in Puerto Montt on Saturday, which happened to be the day of their vegetable market, and heard from a local that it was only a 15 minute walk so we set out in that direction and were not disappointed. The fish and the flowers were totally integrated. Dale showed you the fish so I’ll throw in the flowers and vegetables now.

photo being restoredCheck out the brown patties in the pictures above and below. I just had to ask what it was as it looked so strange and out of place in a food market. Turns out it is a mixture of lamb, muscles and seaweed which is used in soup.

photo being restoredOn our walk back to the ship we watched this merchant set up shop. Later I met someone who said it was excellent and who bought a wheel for $5.00.

photo being restoredIn the afternoon we took the short bus ride to Puerto Varas and enjoyed their city-wide roses in the light drizzle of rain.

photo being restoredThe two local volcanoes weren’t visible on this overcast day but the beauty of the things closer at hand more than compensated. We had a great day in Puerto Montt.
Love the photos of the flowers. Don’t think I would be brave enough to try the brown patties. the rose is gorgeous!
This blog is so much fun! The pictures are amazing! I picture of the rose with rain drops is a winner!
Jenni, I just loved the pictures of the vegetables and flowers. The colors were wonderful! Can’t say that I enjoyed looking at the fish but the rose above is just stunning and I can imagine that it has a wonderful scent.
