Although we spent only one day in Dakar, Senegal, I have lots to say about it so I’ll meter it out in small doses. Dale and I went our separate ways again so his impressions will be quite different from mine. Since he saw lots of nature I thought I’d start by showing you my nature images, which will be real quick since I didn’t see much. But let’s go back even before the beginning.

photo being restoredRemember all the dead jelly fish on the beach in Walvis Bay? Here’s one of the millions in the water as we sailed out. Not a great shot, I know, but then the water was filthy. A bit further on the water was clear and the raindrops made an interesting pattern.

photo being restoredIn the morning we learned that the crew had been having a clothing drive for a charity in Dakar and we were impressed with the outcome. The knitters also donated over 100 more baby caps to a hospital there.

photo being restoredAs my tour group drove along the highway I was impressed with the amount of nursery stock there and later with the gardening people were doing even in what appeared to be poor soil. I concluded that the Senegalese were the best gardeners that I have observed so far in Africa.
