The terminal at which we docked in Dakar was more interesting than most. There were people working there, not just machines. In the mornings we always look over the balcony railing to see what’s going on down below and this morning the people were looking back at us — and taking our picture! The level of mobile phone usage that I observed around Dakar was quite impressive, by the way.

The vendors had begun to set up even before we arrived. They had some of the nicer items that we saw and thankfully they weren’t so pushy that they drove the customers away so we enjoyed browsing.

These men didn’t look like they were dressed for work but they were on the dock waiting for something and they just looked like they needed their picture taken.

This man unlocked a box here, changed his jacket and drank some water before locking it back up, so I surmise that each worker has one of these lockers for his own.

The traffic in town was a bit crazy but out on the highway it was sparse and one had to pay.

The rails appeared to be well cared for but we didn’t see any trains using them. The opposite was true of the transportation which took us over the dunes and along the ocean — well used but not in such good condition. We gave our driver lots of credit for being willing to stop the thing since it took lots of his effort to re-start it every time.
