Yes boys and girls there is a place called null, zero zero. That is zero.zero latitude at zero.zero longitude. Of course anybody who has ever looked at the meridians on a globe has observed that there is a Prime north-south 0.0 meridian and a 0.0 east-west longitudinal meridian at the equator. What you might not have guessed is that it is an actual marked location in the Atlantic Ocean. It is located on the equator in the Gulf of Guinea (Atlantic Ocean) off the west African coast about 380 miles (611 kilometers) south of Ghana and 670 miles (1078 km) west of Gabon.

The ocean depth there is about 14,000 feet and the buoy shown above is anchored by a very long cable. It appears to be a remote weather station as far as I can tell. There is no real significance to the location. It just happened when the maps were drawn.

Well, you can tell things are quiet onboard if I have time to write this blog. We have a week at sea between Namibia and Senegal. We have our men’s class each day and we spend a lot of time discussing photography and we sleep and eat. Every day the ship is trying to entertain us with culinary surprises. here is a picture of today’s surprise lunch.
