Perth is on the Swan River estuary while Fremantle is fifteen minutes away on the shore of the Indian Ocean. What is interesting is that the wide protected Swan river is too shallow for ships and the ocean front is basically unprotected coast without a natural harbor. The city has just built docks, jettys and piers right out into the Ocean which is calm enough to make it work. We arrived on a Wednesday evening and left Thursday evening.

Jenni went off on a ten and half hour bus trip Thursday morning at 5:45 AM. I elected to tour the two cities of Perth and Fremantle since we were to sail early evening. Fremantle has a lovely but small bathing beach surrounded by an amazing number of Fish and Chips restaurants. The boardwalk in front of the beach is less than a city block long.

Next to the beach was a one of a kind Museum of shipwrecks. Very interesting and surprise. . .Free!

While the tour took us through downtown Perth and Fremantle as well as lovely residential neighborhoods, the big attraction was the Kings Park and Botanic Garden, one of the largest city parks in the world. It was amazingly beautiful. I have never seen anything like it. It is the state’s number one tourist attraction and well deserved.

This is an interesting bush that grows short stubby cat tail looking flowers. Jenni got back from her long day and was pretty tired and ready for sleep.

It is now Friday morning and we have been cruising the Indian Ocean all night. I am working on this blog and Jenni is taking a cooking class with another woman she met on the ship. Lamb cooking. Bring it home please. I won’t see her until after lunch as the class stays to eat what they prepared. Sounds good.
