Tahiti was a non-event for us. We didn’t plan to go anywhere and we didn’t. We were docked in Papeete, a city of about 140,000, which doesn’t look a thing like the island paradise you might imagine, and it rained a good part of the day. Papeete was a re-stocking and re-fueling port and its always interesting to watch that happen.

Bob and Brenda went snorkeling, however, and gave me permission to post this picture of them holding on for dear life to the boat in a strong current. I’m really glad I wasn’t with them this time.

Now we are part way through another set of 5 sea days on the way to New Zealand. It would be 6 except that we pass over the International Date Line and lose January 29th. So, we are doing the usual sea day things and the ship’s crew are providing some additional crazy entertainment such as the boat building competition this morning. None of the eight entries sunk as is usually the case, they say, but one listed quite badly. The Captain, First Engineer and General Manager were the judges and everyone had great fun watching the proceedings as each boat carried its cargo of 6 cans of Coke around the pool.

It’s beginning to feel like home here on the ship. As you go up and down the stairs you meet friends and stop to discuss things such as what they think will happen to the itinerary. We all feel sure that we will not be going through the Suez Canal as originally planned but there are almost as many ideas as there are travelers as to what we’ll do instead and when we’ll know.
We have meals with different people occasionally and enjoy learning their stories. There is a wealth of fascinating information to be had from so many people with experiences so different from ours. I check on the puzzles occasionally and put in a few pieces but mostly I enjoy talking with the other puzzlers. I’ve met people who live near us in AZ and who have lived near where we vacationed for many years in Maine. I’ve met people who are easy and enjoyable to visit with and some who just about drive me crazy. This sure is a great place to observe human nature and interactions.
The sea is calm, the clouds sometimes lovely. All is well with us.
Good to read your post. You are an excellent writer and story teller. What cruise line are you traveling on? Looking forward to hearing about New Zealand!
It could be the fault of my Internet, but I’m not seeing any pictures included in the post. Your comments about the variety of people on the ship had me in stitches. Know that you are sorely missed.
Well today is January 29, here in the Northern Hemisphere. It all sounds fabulous. Bob and Brenda’s adventures have had me in stitches……she needs to write a book….Didn’t see the pic you mentioned, but did see it on Brenda’s post. Glad you are enjoying the people and their life experiences (for the most part LOL).
