Iles du Salut, French Guiana was the island paradise second home to more than 80,000 French prisoners made famous by the movie Papillon and then again by the remake of the movie Papillion and then yet again by Jenni’s and my visit to to the now crumbling decaying ruins of the prison. Did they really need a prision? Isn’t the equator punishment enough? It was so HUMID and HOT and STICKY and HAZY I heard people around me wondering why they paid to visit. Three to four hours was painful, not to mention dripping soaking wet misery. Apart from the physical discomfort, it was all quite interesting.
