When I contemplated this cruise my biggest fear was not having enough to do on sea days. So I packed my Kindle with books about the places we would visit and made a list of projects I might do. And still I dreaded the sea days. As it happened I read most of the books before we embarked and I’ve lost the list of projects but it no longer matters. Sea days are busy and I have no time for either.
Today was the second meeting our our women’s Christian book discussion group. The crew here have bent over backwards to provide us a room, even changing it as the group grew larger. We have a diverse and interesting group of about 20 women who engage in a great discussion and are thankful to have a place aboard ship for fellowship and encouragement.
The puzzle table is an amazing meeting place. I pop in whenever I have a few minutes and have enjoyed getting to know the fellow puzzlers as well as a crew member who frequents that area of the ship. The knitting circle allows me to crochet with them and we have already made over 50 caps for preemies which they will deliver (along with 100s more, I imagine) to a hospital in South Africa when we get there. Every time I’m with them I get to meet another interesting woman. I look in on the “quilters”, too, just so I can get to know them. They are creating a fabric art piece by which to remember our journey. There are meals to share with new friends, too, and lectures to enjoy and discuss with the others who attended. For sure there is plenty to keep one busy.
And, today Brenda and I invigorated ourselves at the Nordic spa. (Just FYI, and so you don’t think I have turned into someone you don’t know, it is all free :)) We did their hot, cold, hot, cold… thing, going from sauna to snow grotto to hot tub to cold bucket-poured-on-your-head to steam room to cold plunge pool. And then back again. It was not only invigorating, but fun! (The ugly blue picture is our selfie from the snow grotto.)
So, there you have it — a look into what we do on sea days. And there have been lots of them lately. But, ahaaa, tomorrow is land!
