We docked in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, right by the iconic rocks which seemed to draw people like magnets. But since we aren’t water sport people we took the bus trip to nearby San Jose del Cabo and enjoyed a leisurely couple of hours in the town plaza. (The ship offers “included” tours in every port; tours that are free and usually short and simple, giving you a general idea of the area close to where the ship docks.) The old mission church there was part of the long line of missions going up into California and was original except for the entrance which had been rebuilt after severe storm damage.

I liked the patterns made with stones in front of the church and all over town. The town was deserted and we wondered where all the people were on a Saturday but as the afternoon wore on the vendors began to appear and we learned that that night was a festival so everyone was coming later. The Christmas decorations would be coming down the next day but we got to enjoy another nativity scene before they did. Every town we have visited so far has had large, prominent nativity scenes.

I couldn’t resist asking the parents if I could take a picture of this adorable little boy in his radio controlled Mercedes enjoying the huge open space of the plaza.

As we have driven around in these hot, wet countries we’ve noticed their cemeteries which have everything above ground.

The sea has been calm and beautiful for the most part but as I’m writing this 2 days after Cabo heading towards Los Angeles it is giving us some larger swells and the ship has employed the stabilizers. In LA we will say goodbye to about 400 people who were with us for the Panama Canal cruise only and welcome the rest of the World Cruisers. Then the World Cruise will really begin and we’re thinking it may be a bigger adventure than we planned due to the uncertainty of the Suez Canal passage. We’ll see.
