Before I talk about today’s adventure I must show you some pictures of the elaborate brunch that the ship put on for our last sea day.

Actually I didn’t try a single one of the things pictured but it was fun looking!

We docked the next morning in St Malo, France, and I immediately took off for Le Mont-Saint-Michel, riding again through beautiful countryside to the iconic island.

It was a rainy morning but maybe that added to the feeling of the place. It certainly is an impressive sight but knowing just a little about its varied history took some of the charm away for me. It was once a prison and has been extensively reconstructed and today only a handful of monks reside there. In fact, only 29 people live in the entire town right now. But all that aside I enjoyed the tour, including the over 300 steps up, the slippery, wet cobblestones and the stories that were often only half truths. It was an interesting place to photograph.

John, this one is for you!

The tide was out so we couldn’t get any of the iconic reflection images but I enjoyed the patterns in the sand just as much and tried to get the best angles on the abbey by walking out on the salt marshes.

I’m glad I finally got to see this place I’ve so often wanted to see.

PEOPLE! At last! Thank you!
I found Waldo in the photo of the interior of the cathedral! He is in red, of course.
The chef must be working overtime!
What astonishing displays!
Is that a roasted French Poodle I see?
The abbey is totally spectacular!
Please send me a monk application!
As aways, when you are done reading this, it will self-destruct.
You’re thinking, too bad it didn’t do that before I read it, right?
Anyway, great posting! Thanks!
