Today I travelled up the coast
to the medieval city of Obidos with its 14th century crenellated walls and narrow streets and whitewashed houses; in other words, a “touristic” village. It was lovely and I enjoyed walking through it with my friend, Peggy.
There were several churches in the village but they are not much used today, sadly.
I enjoyed the views from the walls and the walls themselves as I imagined all the work of moving that much rock and using fairly primitive tools to make something that has lasted this long. It was an impressive sight.
The farmlands were lovely both on the ride up the coast and from the village. Portugal raises quite a variety of crops with each fairly distinctive area of the country specializing in what does best there. I’m beginning to see why so many people like to vacation here.
It seems as if it’s the high point of the Iberian peninsula! Once again, I’m floored at the almost total absence of people in your pics!
